I don't really talk about periods very much at all. I may complain about cramping here and there but that's usually as far as I go. I'm not afraid to tell people what I use for my period. Some are fine with it, some also use cups, some are freaked out by the idea. That's fine, everyone is different. I have been a regular menstrual cup user for years and couldn't imagine ever wearing a pad or tampon ever again. Not to mention the money I've saved over the years by not having to buy any.
I came across The Instead Softcup Challenge on facebook and was immediately intrigued. I had never tried softcups before but was curious to know how they compared to other period products. I followed the link to For the Love of the Run and signed up. It seemed like a win win situation. Try a product that I've always wanted to try, for free, write up a review, and then Evofem, the makers up Softcup, will reimburse me for my next race registration. How awesome is that?!
Within a couple of weeks I received a box of Softcups in the mail. I had to wait yet another few weeks before I could try them out. When it came time, I was excited. Then I opened up the box and saw how big the wrappers were. I was intimidated. I opened up the wrapper and the first thing I thought was, "this thing is huge!" So much bigger than what I'm used to with my current menstrual cups. Still, that didn't scare me away completely so I followed the instructions and hoped for the best.
The results? It was very easy to use. Easy to insert, couldn't feel once it was in place, and very easy to remove. Was able to go about my day working and go running, almost forgetting it was even there. The only thing I didn't like was that it was disposable. That being said, it is still more environmentally friendly than most tampons or pads. I did notice that they recently came out with a reusable version but have not looked more into those yet. I'm really glad I got this opportunity to try these and will try to get my step-daughter to give them a try as well. 12 hour protection, it really doesn't get much better than that. I don't think I will be buying them for myself, however, they are a great product but I'm still very happy with my current product. For anyone who has never tried anything other than tampons or pads, I highly recommend you go out and buy a box of these. Low cost, low risk, you may really like it.
